Lansing pitcher Ken Jenkins did his part in helping his team defeat the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 14-2. The opposition could never get too much going against the left-hander. Jenkins, the winner, moves to 11-8. He threw 8 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 1 walk. At 59-72, Lansing is in 5th place in the Eastern Division.

The Lugnuts got a big hit from shortstop Augusto Mercado. Facing Bowling Green pitcher Eli Rogers in the top of the ninth, Mercado pounded a bases-clearing double to left. His 34th double of the season put the Lugnuts ahead, 14-2.

Mercado told the Lansing Daily News: "Sometimes the big stage is not big enough for me."
