Spirited fans greeted the Fort Wayne TinCaps for their clash with the West Michigan Whitecaps.

The West Michigan Whitecaps defeated the Fort Wayne TinCaps, 3-1, in Midwest League action at Parkview Field. West Michigan pitcher Sandy Lowe had a standout performance. Chris Whittemore got the save, his 37th in 46 chances.

West Michigan relied on the hitting of Balduíno Vecchi to pick up the win. The center fielder ripped a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put the Whitecaps on top, 3-1. For the game, Vecchi had 1 triple and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said West Michigan manager James Russell.
