Atlanta's Joel Nelson Suffers Setback Friday, July 24th , 2026 Joel Nelson's return to the Atlanta Hammers has been delayed. The 29-year-old reliever has been in treatment for shoulder inflammation and was responding well until he suffered sharp pains during a light workout. Upon examination by team doctors they reported that there had been further damage and Nelson will not be back as originally diagnosed. He will now be out at least 8 months. Joel Nelson is expected to undergo surgery in Atlanta(Georgia) tomorrow. Nelson has compiled an ERA of 3.04 so far this season, winning 0 games with 2 losses and 2 saves. In 27 relief appearances he has hurled 26.2 innings, yielded 24 hits and struck out 23. Opposing hitters have batted .238 against Nelson. |
