This gifted first-year performer won the honors by batting .345 with a .414 OBP. In 139 games this year, the first baseman laced 179 hits in 519 at-bats, hit 32 home runs, drove in 104 runs and scored 85 times. He received 30 first place votes, as a unanimous winner.
