5 Hits for Pirates Draper
Monday, July 21st , 2025
5 hits in a game has always been a big milestone in baseball -- 5 hits in a game gets a player's name in the record book, win or lose. Oscar Draper got his name recorded today, but the Detroit (GCL) Tigers picked up the win at Joker Marchant Stadium, topping the Pittsburgh (GCL) Pirates, 21-17.
"He bushwhacked us," said winning manager Justin Smoak. "We were lucky to come out ahead."
Draper spoke to reporters in the clubhouse following the game, saying his nerves only set in once he was on the cusp of the milestone.
"I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this could be a once-in-a-lifetime day," the catcher said. "I think the coaches could tell I was going to be ready to swing at anything close. That's why my third base coach told me to calm down and wait for a good pitch. That got me back on track."
Oscar Draper singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Eric Green in the 3rd, hit a three-run home run off Eric Green in the 5th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 6th and flied out in the 8th.
On the season, Draper is batting .314 with 4 home runs and 11 RBIs. He has played in 7 games.
