Smith Superb Against Birmingham
Wednesday, April 29th , 2026
The Birmingham Barons were almost helpless in their 10-0 loss to the Jackson Generals and hurler Jimmy Smith. Smith kept the Barons confused all game, spinning a 5-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Smith," Birmingham manager Casey Kopitzke said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 24-year-old right-hander had 3 walks and 13 strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Smith said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
In 5 starts this season, Smith has crafted a 2-2 record with a 2.04 ERA.
