Southern League's Best Batter Announced Monday, June 30th , 2025 Birmingham fans have something to crow about today as Birmingham center fielder Luis Vargas nabbed the Southern League Player of the Week Award for his performance over the last seven days. "I know there are times when it's hard to lay off pitches. Everyone goes through stretches when he's too eager to put the ball in play. You know, though, I feel like this past week I was able to get in the right frame of mind and just let things come naturally," said Vargas. He posted a .500 average (7-for-14) this past week with 1 home run, 5 RBIs, and 2 runs scored. Looking at his season stats, Vargas has compiled a .226 batting average and a .328 on-base percentage, while hitting 2 home runs and driving in 20 runs. |
