Firebirds Heading to Round 2 Sunday, September 11th , 2022 The championship aspirations of the Mississippi Firebirds are still alive and well, while the Jacksonville Suns are left to wait until next year. Mississippi won the clinching game of the Round 1 7-0 over Jacksonville at Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, to win the series 3-1. "You feel like a little kid again, celebrating something like this," said first baseman Pat Bennett, who paced the Mississippi offense and was named series MVP. "We take everything real seriously when we're on the field, but after a series is over you can finally relax a little bit." Bennett claimed the MVP by racking up 6 hits for a .375 average, with a .375 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, 7 RBI and scored 3 runs. The Mississippi Firebirds don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Jackson Generals - Biloxi Shuckers series. Biloxi leads the series 2 games to 1.
