Chicago left-hander Jose Paulino helped his team edge New York by the score of 3-2. Paulino kept the opposing lineup in check. Chicago reliever Tyler Matzek got the win, raising his record to 1-2. Jesús García was tagged with the loss. New York, with the loss, is 12-10.
Chicago took a 3-1 lead on Franklin Barreto's 3rd home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Barreto hit in the bottom of the seventh, left New York pitcher Jesús García visibly frustrated.
"I'm happy we won," said Paulino. "That's first and foremost. My goal is for the team to win the day I pitch, however it's done."
