The timely hitting of Raúl González helped the Detroit Tigers take down the Kansas City Royals, 7-6, in 11 innings. González was 2-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice for the Tigers. Clarence Rice, now 1-2, was credited with the win in 2 innings of relief. He allowed 1 run on no hits, while striking out 0 and walking 0. The win brings the Tigers to 12-9, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.

The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the 11th. With Detroit trailing 6-5, Al O'Mullan hit a fastball from Ken Giles to center for a 2-run single. Just like that, the Tigers had a walk-off win.
