Hooks Defeated by Missions, 3-1
|
Jerry Weaver, who is tied for 2nd in the TEX in strikeouts with 37, never let the Hooks get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Missions to a win, 3-1. Weaver, now 3-2, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 11, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. The save was credited to Quentin Bixler, his 11th.
The Missions got a big at-bat from second baseman Mike Barnes. For the game, Barnes was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave San Antonio a 2-0 lead.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Barnes, "one at-bat at a time."
The win has San Antonio at 15-9.
