Montgomery Dials Up 3-1 Win
|
The Montgomery Biscuits reigned over the Tennessee Smokies in damp conditions.
Montgomery turned a good performance from starting pitcher António Mercado into a 3-1 triumph over the Tennessee Smokies at Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium. Damian Clark, 4-4, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Rob Gill came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Tennessee pitcher Jimmy Mill, he hit a 0-2 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Montgomery on top, 3-1.
In postgame comments, Gill told the Montgomery News: "Do people still doubt I give 100 percent?"
Montgomery goes to 52-86, Tennessee to 55-83.
