Blue Wahoos Hand Biloxi 10-4 Loss
|
Wet weather did not postpone the Pensacola-Biloxi ballgame.
Arturo Ortega made an impact in the 10-4 Pensacola win over Biloxi. Ortega went 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Doug Merkel got the win, improving to 10-7. He pitched 7.2 innings, giving up 7 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 10 and walking 1. António Castaneda picked up his 29th save of the season.
Sancho Marín had a big bases-clearing double for the Blue Wahoos in the bottom of the eighth inning. With Pensacola leading 6-4 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 22-year old right-handed pitcher Tomás Caraveo and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 22nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Blue Wahoos ahead, 9-4.
Pensacola manager Chad Allen commended his team for "putting the pedal to the metal."
Pensacola improves to 69-46 with the win. They lead their division by 8½ games.
