The Jackson Generals and Pensacola Blue Wahoos needed extra innings at The Ballpark at Jackson to determine a winner.
The Jackson Generals took Doug Merkel's best shot and still were able to collect a win at The Ballpark at Jackson. The final score had Jackson getting past the Blue Wahoos, 5-4, in 13 innings. Merkel over 9 innings allowed 4 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 11. Today's win puts Jackson at 56-51, while Pensacola falls to 63-44.
The Generals got a clutch hit from right fielder Bryan Emery. In the bottom of the 13th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Generals.
Emery said, "Whether you hit the ball hard, you walk, you have a long at-bat, 10 or 12 pitches, or you hit a homer, you're just trying to do anything you can do to help the team win."
