The exploits of third baseman Juan Álvarez helped the St. Louis Cardinals defeat the Minnesota Twins, 9-2. Álvarez was 2 for 4 with a triple. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Cal Hewer picked up the save for St. Louis, his 1st of the year. The Cardinals, now 3-0, have stormed out of the gates.

With St. Louis trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Álvarez hit a fastball from Rob Williams for a bases-clearing triple. It was his 1st triple of the season and put the Cardinals ahead, 3-1.

"The name of the game is scoring runs," Álvarez said. "We did a good job of that today."
