The Jackson Generals beat the Tennessee Smokies, 8-5, at Smokies Park. Joe Towns, in particular, was impressive. He went 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The win lifted the Jackson record to 51-50.

Jackson catcher Pat Leasure contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fourth. With two down, he hit a changeup to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 78th hit of the season and put the Generals ahead, 2-0.

"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Towns.
