The Jacksonville Suns weathered a fine game by Mobile right fielder Clarence Ackerman to upend the BayBears, 8-6, at Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. Ackerman went 3-5 with a home run and 2 doubles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Mal Fuller notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 2 innings. His record now sits at 6-1. Jacksonville leads the South Division by 9½ games.

Juan Souza, who is tied for 8th in the SL with a .297 batting average, took Mobile hurler Milo Svela deep in the bottom of the eighth. His 3-run home run put the Suns on top, 8-6. In all, Souza had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 5.
