Toronto Beats Baltimore, 7-4
|
The Toronto Blue Jays picked up a win at Rogers Centre, dropping the Baltimore Orioles, 7-4. Marco Gonzales, who finished 5th in the NL in innings pitched with 203.1 last year, was the difference-maker. Gonzales, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 2 walks. Trevor Rosenthal was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.
Nick Gordon had a big 2-run double for the Blue Jays in the bottom of the second inning. With Toronto leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Hector Jimenez, who led the AL in wins with 18 last year, and swatted a double to left. It was his 3rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Blue Jays ahead, 3-0.
"Marco pounded the strike zone and made good pitches when he needed to," said Toronto manager José Soto.
The loss puts Baltimore at 1-1.
