Firebirds Pick Up 4-3 Win Against Jackson
|
António Martínez, who is tied for 10th in the SL with a 10.3 K/9 rate, had a strong outing for the Mississippi Firebirds against the Jackson Generals at Trustmark Park. The left-hander was a big part of his team's 4-3 win. Martínez got the win, improving to 5-1. He gave up 9 hits and walked 2 over 7.2 innings. He allowed 2 runs. The South Division-leading Firebirds have a record of 31-17.
The Firebirds got a big at-bat from second baseman Ferrie van Enk. For the game, van Enk was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave Mississippi a 4-1 lead.
"António had good stuff. When he did get into a compromising count, he made the most of it," said Mississippi manager Chris Herrmann.
