The Biloxi Shuckers wasted an inspired, 9-inning effort from starter Xavier Rivera, falling, 2-1, to the Birmingham Barons at MGM Park. Luis Antonio Ramírez was the winner. He's now 1-1. The loser was fireballing right-hander Xavier Rivera. Ed McDermott finished the game for Birmingham and earned his 9th save.

Juan Ramos came through with a big-time hit for Birmingham. The second baseman smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 2-0. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

Birmingham manager Casey Kopitzke called it "a darn good win."

Birmingham goes to 19-20, Biloxi to 16-23.
