Barons Turn Back Jacksonville, 1-0
|
Kevin Arnold never let the Suns get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his curveball, to pitch the Barons to a win, 1-0. The winner was Arnold. He threw 7.1 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Merlin Mullins. The save went to Jeff Jones, his 3rd this season.
Bernardo Díaz had a direct impact on the outcome. Díaz contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning to put Birmingham up, 1-0.
"It's no secret that good defense follows around people who throw strikes," said Birmingham manager Casey Kopitzke.
The loss has the Suns at 10-3.
