The Mobile BayBears had to overcome a good performance from Tennessee pitcher Bob Johnstone to claim a 3-1 win at Smokies Park. Johnstone went 5.2 innings and allowed 1 run. Mobile reliever Alfredo Gómez picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Juan Vega was saddled with the loss. Earning his 1st save for Mobile was Milo Svela.
António Manuel came through with a big-time hit for Mobile. The left fielder smacked a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 2-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"I like what I saw today," said Mobile manager , "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
The BayBears raised their record to 4-1.
