Yankees Beat Oakland, 3-2
|
In a low-scoring affair between the New York Yankees and the Oakland Athletics, pitcher Steve Coffman was the difference between victory and defeat. The New York right-hander earned accolades in the 3-2 Yankees win. Von Barr, now 9-5, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 1 and walking 0. The Yankees sport a record of 63-96.
The Yankees procured the win, in large part because of left fielder Manny Sanchez. In the bottom of the tenth, he produced the game-winning run-scoring double.
"Our team showed some resilience," said Sanchez.
