The Washington Nationals topped the Philadelphia Phillies, 8-2, with catcher Oscar Hernandez playing a big role. Hernandez was 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 3 for the Nationals in the win. The win for the Nationals lifted their record to 85-68.

With Washington leading 4-0 in the bottom of the seventh, Hernandez came up to bat against Philadelphia pitcher António Pacheco. Hernandez hit a changeup to right-center for a 3-run home run. His 11th home run of the season put the Nationals on top, 7-0.

"We maximized our offense today," said Washington skipper Mark Grudzielanek. "That makes everyone's life easier."
