Guardians Prevail, 4-2, Over Chicago
|
Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Cleveland Guardians and Chicago White Sox.
In the 4-2 Cleveland win over Chicago, the impact of Ernie Jones was substantial. Jones, who finished 4th in the NL in extra base hits with 71 in 2022, was 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times. Tim Garnham earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 4 hits in 2.1 innings. He upped his record to 1-0. Heath Hembree notched his 27th save in 32 chances.
The Guardians got a big at-bat from left fielder Hermengildo Forte. For the game, Forte went 1-3 with a double and a walk, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 5th double of the season gave Cleveland a 3-2 lead.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Jones, "and then get after it again."
The win puts Cleveland at 61-88.
