St. Louis Earns 3-2 Win
|
Seattle got a big-time effort from pitcher Anastasio Rodríguez, but it wasn't enough to keep the St. Louis Cardinals from winning the game, 3-2. Rodríguez threw 7.1 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. The last-place Cardinals now sit at 65-80.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Juan Álvarez? The 28-year old third baseman Álvarez stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put St. Louis up, 3-2. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"Tough loss," said Seattle manager Jeff Banister. "But we'll learn from it."
