The Milwaukee Brewers downed the Pittsburgh Pirates, 9-6, in 11 innings at PNC Park. Kevin Thompson led the way, going 3-for-4 for Milwaukee. Ed Gaines, who is tied for 8th in the NL in saves with 25, was the winner in relief. His record is now 7-9. The losing pitcher was Aaron Sanchez. Milwaukee improves to 75-68 with the win. They lead their division by 6 games.

Milwaukee needed the clutch hitting of Steve Sanders to seal the deal. The third baseman swatted a 3-run home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the Brewers on top, 9-6. For the game, Sanders had 1 home run and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
