Houston turned a good performance from starting pitcher Kevin Rogers into a 7-2 triumph over the New York Yankees at Minute Maid Park. The victory puts Houston at 54-86.

The Astros got a big at-bat from center fielder Claude Spears. For the game, Spears was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 12th home run of the season gave Houston a 2-0 lead.

"Kevin is a tough competitor," said Houston manager Manny Acta.
