Royals Get Clutch Win Versus Detroit
|
The Kansas City Royals downed the Detroit Tigers, 1-0, at Kauffman Stadium. Stellar pitching by Ken Walker had a lot to do with it. The right-hander handcuffed his opponent all game. Juan Oramas, credited with the win in relief, is now 2-1. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1 innings. After today's action, Kansas City sits at 70-64; Detroit slips to 82-54.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Kansas City pinch hitter Leonel Bejaran, facing Hugh Owens, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Royals the 1-0 win.
"Runs were at a premium," said Kansas City manager Jim Tracy.
