Mets Walk It Off for 45th Win of Season
The New York Mets beat the Atlanta Firebirds by a score of 5-4. New York second baseman Kenny Hernandez deserved the lion's share of the credit. Hernandez went 4-5 with 4 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Mets. The winner in relief was Jeff McCray. He is now 2-4. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. The victory puts New York at 45-75.

The decisive blow was delivered by Dustin Peterson in the bottom of the 13th when he hit a run-scoring double off 27-year old right-handed pitcher Dan Hicks to win the game for New York. The home crowd went nuts.

"We squandered some opportunities," said Atlanta manager Barry Larkin.
