San Francisco Wins, 5-4
|
The Arizona Diamondbacks and San Francisco Giants provided some drama for the home crowd.
Arizona catcher Robinson Pérez had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 5-4, to San Francisco at Chase Field. Pérez was 3-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Damian Peña, the winner, improved to 1-0. He held the Diamondbacks to 2 runs on 5 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 1. Craig Kimbrel got the save, his 31st in 33 chances.
San Francisco right fielder Avisail Garcia contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fourth. With two down, he hit a slider into left field for a 2-run single. It was his 90th hit of the season and put the Giants ahead, 5-2.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said San Francisco manager Travis Fryman. "It's usually not just one thing."
The last-place Giants have a record of 55-60.
