The exploits of left fielder Wes Erickson, who finished 3rd in the NL in triples with 8 last year, helped the Oakland Athletics defeat the Minnesota Twins, 4-2. Erickson went 4 for 5 with a home run and 2 doubles. Donnie Reid earned the win for Oakland. He lasted 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 9 hits, while striking out 3. With the win, he raised his record to 4-7. Ricardo Rodriguez, credited with the save, is now 1 for 2 in save opportunities.
With Oakland leading 1-0 in the top of the third, Byron Buxton hit a 2-run home run off Minnesota pitcher Matt Barnes. It put the Athletics ahead 3-0.
Erickson told a Oakland Times reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
The third-place Athletics have won 5 straight games.
