Extra-Inning Win by Nationals Over Twins
|
The Washington Nationals went home winners at Target Field, thanks in large part to starter Ty Buttrey. Buttrey stifled the Minnesota Twins, enabling Washington to grab the 7-1 win. Robbie McJannett, now 7-4, was credited with the win in 2 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 3 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 0. The setback makes Minnesota 50-55.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder David Dahl came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Minnesota pitcher Pat Calhoun, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Washington on top, 2-1.
"The only difference is executing pitches and not executing pitches," said Buttrey. "When you don't execute, you get beat. When you execute, you usually give your team a chance to win."
