Royals Collect 6-4 Win Over Cubs
|
The Kansas City Royals defeated the Chicago Cubs, 6-4, in 10 innings. Camil Groza, who is tied for 3rd in the AL with a .333 batting average, played a big role. Groza was 4-5 with 4 singles for the Royals in the win. Kansas City reliever Randy Richey picked up the win, upping his record to 2-2. Mariano Ortega absorbed the loss. Ken Giles earned the save, his 20th in 25 tries.
The game was all tied up in the top of the tenth, until Groza delivered big-time for Kansas City, stroking a dramatic run-scoring single off Mariano Ortega. The game-changing hit put the Royals on top, 5-4.
"Hustle and hard work is a big part of our success," said Groza. "Those qualities define our team."
With the win, Kansas City raised its record to 53-49.
