The Houston Astros called upon starter Vince McSweeney, and he delivered, leading his team to victory over the Texas Rangers, 3-2. The Astros raised their record to 39-57.
Claude Spears went 1 for 3 for Houston. The two-time Gold Glove Award winner had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Sonny Gray. It was his 39th RBI of the season.
"We busted our tails," said Texas manager Ron Robinson. "But we came up short."
