Boston Slaps 11-9 Loss on Nationals
|
A good performance from third baseman Rafael Devers helped the Boston Red Sox defeat the Washington Nationals, 11-9. Devers went 3-5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2 for the Red Sox. Terence McCray, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 11th save. The first-place Red Sox, at 53-37, now lead their division by 3½ games.
Patrick Vitzhum had a big 2-run double for the Red Sox in the top of the first inning. With Boston leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a knuckle curve from Ty Buttrey, who leads the NL in wins with 10, and swatted a double to right. It was his 3rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Red Sox ahead, 3-0.
"Wild game," said Devers after it ended.
