The Minnesota Twins weathered a fine game by Miami left fielder Kurt Newton to upend the Marlins, 11-5, at LoanDepot Park. Newton was 3-4 with 2 home runs and a double. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Minnesota is now 42-45. Miami is 50-34.

Minnesota used the hitting of Carol Westerhout to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Twins on top, 2-0. For the game, Westerhout had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

Minnesota manager Robin Ventura was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys went out there and put good wood on the ball," he said.
