Dan Combs was a vital contributor to the 4-2 Boston victory over Cincinnati. The Red Sox catcher was 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 runs. Boston reliever Ed Goodwin picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Julius Taylor was saddled with the loss. Boston is now 50-36, while Cincinnati is 38-47.

Combs had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the eighth. On a 0-2 changeup from Julius Taylor, he banged a solo home run to right, giving the Red Sox a 3-2 lead. It was the 11th home run of the year for Combs.

"If you chase it, you need to get it," said Boston skipper Alvin Morman.
