Boston picked up a win at Fenway Park, bumping off the New York Yankees, 4-2. Pitcher Tony Nava was a major reason the Red Sox emerged victorious. Boston reliever Ed Goodwin picked up the win, raising his record to 3-2. Caleb Williams was tagged with the loss. Boston currently is in first place in the American League East Division at 45-39.

Had Christian Arroyo not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Arroyo hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Red Sox.

Said Boston manager Alvin Morman: "At the end of the day, these guys have to perform between the lines, and I think they did."
