Reds Roll to 8-1 Win Over Padres
|
With catcher Jeff Adams leading the charge, the Cincinnati Reds defeated the San Diego Padres, 8-1, at Great American Ball Park. Adams, who is tied for 5th in the NL with a .325 batting average, was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The winning pitcher was Dave Parsons. He tossed 90 pitches over 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits. With this game in the books, Cincinnati is 37-45, San Diego 38-44.
José Morán had a big 2-run double for the Reds in the bottom of the first inning. With Cincinnati leading 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a fastball from Wing-chiu Chin, who is tied for 8th in the NL in strikeouts with 90, and swatted a double to right. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Reds ahead, 3-0.
"We'll need a much better effort, the next time out," said losing manager Darin Everson.
