Angels Continue Hot Start to Season With Win
|
WL third baseman Ron Jones had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Jones belted 2 home runs, even as WL beat the Cubs, 7-4. Jones was named the player of the game despite the loss. Derrek McGriff was the winning pitcher. Over 5.1 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, with no walks and 9 strikeouts. Darren Watkins closed the game out for WL, earning his 5th save.
Jean Estrella, who is tied for 7th in the Two with a .338 batting average, aided the WL cause with a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the designated hitter went 2-5 with a double, while adding 3 RBI.
In postgame comments to the WL Herald, Estrella said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The Angels bumped their record to 15-7 with this latest triumph.
