Tigers Fall Short, 4-3, at WL
|
The WL Tigers got a superb performance from third baseman Francis Azcona. Still, it wasn't enough to beat WL. The Mariners won the game, 4-3. In spite of the loss, Azcona was named the player of the game. He was 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles. The winner was WL reliever Lúcio Rivera, now 1-1. The loser was Andriu Martin. Earning his 2nd save for WL was Williams Mendoza.
The Mariners got a big at-bat from catcher Juan Rocha. For the game, Rocha was 1 for 3 with a hit by pitch. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run single. His 7th hit of the season gave WL a 4-3 lead.
"Winning is the only thing that really matters," Rocha told the WL Herald. "If you can win without even breaking a sweat, more power to you."
WL, at 5-4, sits in third place in the League 1 Central.
