Mariners Trip Twins, 2-0, in Extra Innings
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Seattle Mariners and the Minnesota Twins, Lewis Thorpe was the difference-maker. The Seattle left-hander spearheaded the 2-0 win. Seattle pitcher Dominic Leone got the win. He's now 3-1. Jung-ho Chang was tagged with the loss. Seattle now sits at 29-34, while Minnesota falls to 28-37.
Seattle used a clutch hit from Bob Hollis to get the win. The designated hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Mariners ahead, 2-0. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
During his postgame press conference, Mariners manager Jeff Banister told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
