Texas Decked, 9-7, by Guardians
|
The Cleveland Guardians powered past the Texas Rangers, 9-7, at Globe Life Park in Arlington. Mike Papi provided some of the pop. He went 3-4 with 3 doubles and a walk, while scoring 2 times. Luis Aguiler recorded the save for Cleveland, his 5th of the season. Today's win puts Cleveland at 27-38, while Texas falls to 29-34.
Ernie Jones had a big bases-clearing double for the Guardians in the top of the fifth inning. With Cleveland trailing 3-1 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Derrek McGriff, who finished 2nd in the AL in innings pitched with 193.1 in 2021, and swatted a double to left. It was his 15th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Guardians ahead, 4-3.
Guardians manager Tristan Bugbie wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
