Brewers Prevail, 9-7, Over San Francisco
|
With first baseman Billy Wood leading the charge, the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the San Francisco Giants, 9-7, at Miller Park. Wood, who led the NL in doubles with 62 last year, was 3 for 5 with 3 singles, while scoring 2. Joe Ross, the winner, goes to 7-2. He allowed 5 runs on 7 hits, with 1 walk and 6 strikeouts over 6.1 innings. Ed Gaines, credited with the save, is now 21 for 22 in save opportunities.
Mitch Trees was 1 for 4, while adding 2 RBI for Milwaukee. The 30-year old catcher had a key at-bat in the bottom of the third. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Marco Gonzales. It was his 21st RBI of the season.
"We ground out the win," said Wood. "That's all that matters."
The Brewers sport a record of 39-21.
