The Los Angeles Angels started the League Championship Series in style, downing the visiting Boston Red Sox at Angel Stadium of Anaheim by a score of 6-1 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Angels right-hander Derrek McGriff threw 6.0 innings of 3-hit ball.

The Red Sox had trouble solving McGriff, who surrendered 1 run on 3 hits over 6 innings.

"I went out and just tried to do my job," said McGriff.
