The Chicago (VSL) Cubs beat the Detroit (VSL) Tigers by a score of 7-2. Chicago (VSL) right fielder Mario Guerra deserved the lion's share of the credit. Guerra went 3-4 with a home run, a triple, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 times for the Cubs. The Cubs, now 18-29, know that wins in August count the same as wins in September.

Norberto Gutiérrez had a big 2-run home run for the Cubs in the bottom of the first inning. With Chicago (VSL) leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from Clemente Piccinini and swatted a home run to left. It was his 4th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cubs ahead, 3-0.

"We've got great fans," said Guerra. "I hope they got what they came for."
