Philadelphia (VSL) got a valiant performance from pitcher Steve Ives, but it wasn't enough to beat the Chicago (VSL) Cubs. Chicago (VSL) won the game, 1-0. Had Arend Kooiman not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Kooiman hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 1-0, in favor of the Cubs.

"It was a good effort all around," said Kooiman.

The Cubs raised their record to 13-22.
