Thanks in large part to shortstop Ismaldo Rodriguez, the Kansas City Royals beat the Minnesota Twins, 5-4. Rodriguez was 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs. The Royals improved their record to 27-24 by beating Minnesota.

The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Jesús Martínez came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Minnesota pitcher Pat Calhoun, he hit a 2-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Kansas City on top, 5-4.
