Reds Snatch Late-Game, 3-2 Win
|
The Cincinnati Reds had to overcome a fine effort from Pittsburgh pitcher Luis Gallegos to win, 3-2, at PNC Park. Gallegos went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs. The winner was Steven Matz, who threw 95 pitches over 7 innings. The left-hander was charged with 2 runs on 8 hits. The win puts Cincinnati at 20-29.
Leury Garcia, who finished 3rd in the AL in batting average with .307 in 2016, had a direct impact on the outcome. Garcia contributed a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to put Cincinnati up, 2-1.
After the game, Cincinnati manager Julio Vinas applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
